Measuring Guides

Follow these steps to be able to quickly and accurately measure your doorway to make sure you get doors that fit your space perfectly.

1. Measure the width of the doorway (A)

Take this measurement in three places:

  • Once towards the very top.
  • Once in the middle.
  • Once just above floor level.

There may be a slight variation in the width between the top and bottom of the frame – if this is the case then use the shortest measurement.

2. Measure the height of the doorway (B)

Again, you should do this three times:

  • On the left.
  • In the centre.
  • On the right.

There is usually a small difference in the frame, particularly in older houses, and you need to make sure your door fits the smallest space.

Note: if there is a big difference in any one set of measurements (width or height) you may need to replace or realign the door frame before installing your doors.

3. Take both measurements again

It is important that these measurements are accurate, so take them twice just to be sure.

Being meticulous with your measurements might feel time-consuming when your taking them but it is worth it! It is far more hassle to discover your doors don’t fit half-way through hanging them, and far more expensive too if you’re no longer able to return or exchange them.

4. Find the right size

Check the size dropdowns on all our doors to see what sizes are available.

We have 11mm lipping's on all our doors allowing for up to 7mm to be taken off from each side and 25mm from the bottom on installation, ensuring a perfect fit for all frames.

Great service and productReviewed by Simon on 27 Jul 2021

I bought the Victorian 4 Panel Oak BiFold Door to replace a standard door used for a kitchen pantry. The door works brilliantly, is a good space saver and the team at Doors At Home were helpful, sending over fitting instructions and advising on a good stain to use. Great service and product.

Hi, do these doors come with door knobs/handles Or do these need to be bought separately? Thanks, Ruth
You will need to purchase the handles/knobs separately. You can search in our "Hardware" section for our range. Our bi fold doors do come with the fixings you need to install the actual door.
Hi, can you confirm how the Victorian 4 panel oak bifold door is installed? Are there runners at the top or bottom or is it simply hinged? Thanks
Hi, our Bifold doors are two door panels hinged together, supplied with all the hardware required to fit a folding door into an existing standard opening. A top track with a sliding guide combined with two pivot points will action the folding doors.
I am interested in buying your oak internal bi fold door. does the door include all fixings/track ? if so, is this a track for top and bottom of frame or just the top?
Hi, all our bi fold doors include the fixings and track you will need to fit the door. The track is just at the top.
Hi there Is this door suitable for a bathroom as in some pictures of internal bifolds there looks as if there is a gap in the middle of the 2 doors when closed? Thanks Ross
There is a small gap between the 2 door panels, this is to allow the hinges to operate and the door to fold. This gap is approx. 2mm. You could put a foam draught excluder strip down the edge of one panel which would then be compressed when closed.....
